Master thesis: Galaxy

The new created Group for Medical System Biology searches for additional staff for the Service Unit System Biology. The Department exists since October 2016 and is currently under construction. One of our fields of activity is to advise and support doctors and scientists with the analysis of their data. One of our goals is it to enable doctors to analyse high output data on their own. For this reason the GMS provides a Galaxy server as platform to perform standardised workflows and analyses.

Therefore we are searching for a student assistant, who would like to enable the desired requirements in Galaxy in the context of a Master thesis. Thereby should be evaluated whats possible inside the Galaxy environment and which connections are needed to make the Galaxy sever availible to the clinic. After the evaluation new workflows should be implemented and made availble. The focus of these workflows should be on Microbiom-, Genom-, and Transcribtom data.

What we offer:

  • close collaboration between sciience and clinic
  • flexible working time
  • friendly work enviroment
  • the possiblility to implement your own ideas

What is required:

  • student of one of the following study paths: informatics, medical-informatics, bioinformatics, or similar
  • joy at recognise, describe and solve problems
  • self-reliant working
  • knowledge in a script language (perl, python, R) , programming language (C, C++, Java) and/or Linux knowledge would be preferable
